Monica Sone is right about jealous people who destroy everything. Nobody wants to have these crazy clowns around. My dear grandmother used to say about jealous people: They belong in a circus or madhouse.

I was just reading Betty MacDonald's Onions in the Stew. Betty MacDonald described ice and snow in Seattle and on Vashon Island. Can you remember?

We got the following messages from Betty MacDonald fans.
Very cold days in the State of Washington! Brrrrrrrrrrrrr!

We recently had a wind storm followed by some very low temperatures and a lot of snow.
Vashon Island had a power outage for a few days. My sister was without power from Monday evening to Thursday before noon.
The next week is supposed to be above freezing, rain and occasional sun-breaks.
Old timers on the Island had kerosene lamps and wood stoves and plenty of wood just for this type of situation.

We had a bit of snow and cold around here and mother had to put up with no electric power or heat for two days but seems cheerful about it all.

We have just gone through an Arctic Express. Extremely cold and snowy on Vashon Island. Broke records for low temps. I was without power for 24 hours, many much longer. Today is much warmer and the snow is almost gone.

We have had bad storms that brought down some of the big trees on houses and power lines. We have had long hours and days without power, and the temperature got down to 15 degrees F. No sun, but today it is raining and the snow and ice are melting.

For one week here it's been verrrrry cold from zero with wind chil to now finally 40 degrees. Seattle was almost shut down due to bad ice. We cancelled plans to go to Sequim, which is not far from where Betty lived the story of the EGG AND I. Too cold, too much snow, windy, and icy. So we stayed home and roasted a duck!! We're not seeing the sun yet! At least it isn't raining.It's impossible to walk every day in this weather. I usually go out for 45 minutes a day.

We hope it'll be better very soon in Seattle, on Vashon Island and in the State of Washington.

So sorry to be slow about discussion on jealousy".

Fans Mara, Dag and Inga write knowledgeably about it.

It's a complex subject. For now, I would define " jealousy " as a very common feeling. Each one of us feels it, one time or another.

One feels jealous when you see someone has something you value a great deal but you don't have it. Feeling jealous can be handled in a positive or negative way. It can stimulate you to work hard to get what you want or one could hold on to jealousy and feel emotionally unhappy.

My definition may be disappointing because it's so simple. Jealousy can be hidden so one's behavior does not show jealousy. One could go on and on about this subject.

A book can be written about it but I won't.

Hello Anita, Eartha Kitt II, Mara, Dag, Inga and Betty MacDonald Fan Club fans,

Jealous people have no feeling of self worth. They are crazy clowns and don't know anything about friendship. They destroy themselves and their friend - and relationships because of this very dangerous illness.
If a jealous person begins with: To be honest you won't hear the truth.

In case you know some jealous people and I guess everybody knows some, I have a good advice.
Especially jealous people should read the excellent book of our Betty MacDonald Fan Club honor member, writer and artist Darsie Beck, Betty MacDonald's gifted nephew.

These people need a practical guide to greater creativity and spiritual harmony because that's what they miss. We have to work on ourselves to be better partners, parents and friends.
Betty MacDonald said: Jelaous people are lost.
Betty MacDonald knew what she was talking about.

I agree. Jealousy is a very serious illness. These persons have no self value feeling. They act like angry childs, destroy everything and have a miserable life. Very negative persons, indeed!

I feel sorry for our beloved Betty MacDonald because there was lots of jealousy in her life.

You can find comments of other writers for example:

Betty MacDonald only wrote about herself and boring chickens. I can't understand the reason why THE EGG AND I is so successful.

It's so typical for jealous persons.

I'd like to change this sad subject now.

Let's talk about our future Betty MacDonald Fan Club honor members. We are very happy and grateful.

Betty MacDonald's bad experiences

Dear Anita, Eartha Kitt II, Mara and other Betty MacDonald Fan Club fans,

It's Dag,

I contribute a Betty MacDonald letter to Betty MacDonald Memorial letter project.
I own a very important letter of Betty MacDonald. Betty MacDonald describes her bad experiences with jealousy. Poor Betty had lots of them!

I'll share it on Betty MacDonald Newsletter November.

Having a bad childhood or not - you can't act like this - making others down whenever you can because of your jealousy.

These 'poor' people only think in black and white terms. They believe they are the only good and selfless ones - the others are always very selfish and only interested in earning money and using people.

How childish is a behaviour like this? In reality they feel isolated and very lonesome in their selfbuild prisons. They are afraid of others and live in their own world. They tell their fairy-tales over and over again all the time and at the end they believe in their own fake stories. You can feel sorry in a way for people like this but if they are slanderous towards others they should be sued. You can't tolerate people like this. They try to damage your reputation because of their mental disorder.

thank you so much for encouraging the Betty MacDonald Fans to contact us and our Betty MacDonald Fan Club honor members. We are an international Betty MacDonald Community and we are always delighted to hear from Betty MacDonald fans.

I can imagine people act like this if they feel frustrated, unimportant und unsuccessful. They are very bitter, jealous and disappointed. Most of them had a bad childhood.
You won't find parents like Sydney and Darsie Bard in these families. They don't trust anybody because they are not able to believe in themselves. They suffer from a very serious inferiority complex.

Betty MacDonald suffered a lot because of slanderous people like this. She was just the opposite. Therefore we love Betty MacDonald's great work and her unique personality.

All my love to Anita, outstanding Eartha Kitt II, our beloved Betty MacDonald Fan Club honor members and the Betty MacDonald Fan Club fans. I hope to see you again in 2011! I'm very happy and grateful to be in contact with so many kind and gracious people.

If there is a Monica Sone fan who would like to tell her that he or she enjoyed her excellent book Nisei Daughter Monica Sone is always very happy to hear from you. Betty MacDonald described her as Kimi in The Plague and I in a perfect way.

Eartha looks at me and seems to say: Anita, you dull bore why are you talking about these things? Everybody knows it.
I can tell you the reason why, Eartha. Monica Sone and our other Betty MacDonald Fan Club honour members Gwen Grant and Darsie Beck are very glad to hear from their fans from all over the world.
Eartha you and I and many international fans know it. It's a fact, although there are some people who don't know it. I can only say: Don't believe anybody who tells you the opposite. By the way I heard Monica Sone and other family members can't even remember talking to a person who tells fairy-tales like this. Very strange, indeed!
