Betty MacDonald and Mary Bard letter
Good morning, it's Guni
I agree it's very sad that Alison Bard Burnett never published her autobiography. The interviews with Wolfgang Hampel are terribly funny and it's such a great feeling to hear Alison Bard Burnett's wonderful voice and laugh.
The same with Betty MacDonald. When Betty MacDonald and Alison Bard Burnett are talking about life in Butte, Chimacum, Seattle, Laurelhurst, Vashon Island and Carmel you can feel the typical Bard magic. I hope we can hear and see Betty MacDonald's filmed interview and her radio interview in the near future.
Monica Sone's and Darsie Beck's comments and thoughts are excellent and very intelligent. We can be very proud of our wonderful Betty MacDonald Fan Club Honour members. Our family adores Monica Sone's book Nisei Daughter. It's a very good feeling to have Gwen Grant as new Betty MacDonald Fan Club Honour member. I'm always looking for good writers because we have many grandchildren and Gwen's books sound perfect. Our grandchildren love Nancy and Plum and the Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle books but also Mary Bard's Best friends series.
Gracia, you mentioned the next Betty MacDonald Fan Club Honour Member is artist and writer and President of a world famous Society? Who is it?
Gracia, are you a writer? We couldn't stop laughing after reading your very funny story about your 'Mrs. Hicks'. You didn't describe her hairstyle. Does she have the same like Betty MacDonald's Mrs. Hicks?
I wished we had neighbours like this but ours are just normal people like you and me.
I can understand very well that Betty MacDonald wanted people to amuse her. With only bores around her she wouldn't have written books like The Egg and I, Anybody can do anything, The Plague and I and Onions in the Stew. As Wolfgang Hampel says to Alison Bard Burnett: There are so many bores in the world and Alison replies: Terrible ones!
Therefore we are so grateful and happy. Both are not boring at all and it's such a great pleasure to listen to them which happens very often.
Owning chickens seem to be very stylish now but we are very happy without them.
We love our cats.
Gracia, you can be very happy because you own letters written by Betty MacDonald and Mary Bard and their mother Sydney Bard. I have an original letter of Mary Bard in my collection. It's a very interesting and funny one ( not boring at all as you can imagine) and I would like to contribute it to your Betty MacDonald letters projcect in case you are interested.

Betty MacDonald, Hicks and Kettles
I'm Gracia,
Hello Miriam and Betty MacDonald Fan Club Fans,
Wolfgang Hampel's Ma and Pa Kettle biography is much funnier than a Ma and Pa Kettle movie. When Betty MacDonald's sister Alison Bard Burnett talkes about her experiences with the Kettles even my mother-in-law is laughing. This is very surprising because she laughs very seldom.
We don't have neighbours like the Kettles. Our neighbours are like Mr. and Mrs. Hicks.
They have no children. We have a boy and two girls. Mr. and Mrs. Hicks are cutting down everything in the garden. Ours looks like a paradise or a green hell with many trees and branches. Mr. Hicks always says to us: If you need help I'll cut everything down for you but we refuse so far. We have two dogs. Mr. and Mrs. Hicks don't like dogs or cats because Mrs. Hicks is very allergic. By the way we won't ever have any chickens although is seems that our children bring a new pet home every day. I know what they are talking about when they say: Mother, we have a surprise! You won't believe it! ( I do! )
Mrs. Hicks is cleaning the house night and day and is called ' our newspaper' because she knows everything about the people in our community.
You know I thought it was a very witty idea to lend our Mrs. Hicks Betty MacDonald's The Egg and I which she wasn't aware of. After she read Betty MacDonald's book she said smiling: It was very funny but I dislike this awful Mrs. Hicks. She obviously doesn't understand the meaning of life. I couldn't say anything and looked at her with an open mouth. Mrs. Hicks gave me a strange look and said: Darling, is everything ok with you? You look terrible this morning!
I want to share a very special Betty MacDonald family story. My grandmother wrote letters to Betty MacDonald, Mary and Sydney Bard because she loved Betty MacDonald's and Mary Bard's books. She was very fond after she got delightful letters written by Betty MacDonald, Mary Bard and even from mother Sydney Bard. I'll write a Betty MacDonald Fan Club Article about it.

Our boy likes the Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle Stories. He always says: I don't behave like the boys and girls in the books and don't need a Piggle-Wiggle cure. I'm not sure. Not at all!

Wolfgang Hampel's Ma and Pa Kettle biography is much funnier than a Ma and Pa Kettle movie. When Betty MacDonald's sister Alison Bard Burnett talkes about her experiences with the Kettles even my mother-in-law is laughing. This is very surprising because she laughs very seldom.
We don't have neighbours like the Kettles. Our neighbours are like Mr. and Mrs. Hicks.
They have no children. We have a boy and two girls. Mr. and Mrs. Hicks are cutting down everything in the garden. Ours looks like a paradise or a green hell with many trees and branches. Mr. Hicks always says to us: If you need help I'll cut everything down for you but we refuse so far. We have two dogs. Mr. and Mrs. Hicks don't like dogs or cats because Mrs. Hicks is very allergic. By the way we won't ever have any chickens although is seems that our children bring a new pet home every day. I know what they are talking about when they say: Mother, we have a surprise! You won't believe it! ( I do! )
Mrs. Hicks is cleaning the house night and day and is called ' our newspaper' because she knows everything about the people in our community.
You know I thought it was a very witty idea to lend our Mrs. Hicks Betty MacDonald's The Egg and I which she wasn't aware of. After she read Betty MacDonald's book she said smiling: It was very funny but I dislike this awful Mrs. Hicks. She obviously doesn't understand the meaning of life. I couldn't say anything and looked at her with an open mouth. Mrs. Hicks gave me a strange look and said: Darling, is everything ok with you? You look terrible this morning!
I want to share a very special Betty MacDonald family story. My grandmother wrote letters to Betty MacDonald, Mary and Sydney Bard because she loved Betty MacDonald's and Mary Bard's books. She was very fond after she got delightful letters written by Betty MacDonald, Mary Bard and even from mother Sydney Bard. I'll write a Betty MacDonald Fan Club Article about it.

Although we have cats, dogs, birds, four children and a very difficult 'Gammy', we won't ever have chickens! Chickens? No way!
We like eggs for breakfast but we don't like chickens. Poor Betty MacDonald!
Betty MacDonald's very witty sister Alison Bard Burnett tells the most interesting stories in Wolfgang Hampel's Betty MacDonald Fan Club Interviews, especially about Betty MacDonald and her first husband Robert Eugene Heskett. Sister Dede, whose real name is Dorothea Bard Goldsmith, was very brave. It was a very diffcult time for Betty MacDonald and she can be very glad that she had a family and sisters like this.

Publish more Wolfgang Hampel Interviews, please. Wolfgang Hampel interviewed so many famous artists and writers. Truman Capote, Ingrid Noll and Maurice Sendak belong to our favourite writers. A very good idea is to publish Wolfgang Hampel's satirical poems.
If they are as good as the ones we've read in Betty MacDonald Fan Club Newsletters they are outstanding.
As I'm a mother of four children I enjoyed the Betty MacDonald Fan Club News. We have a very successful and famous author for children as new Betty MacDonald Fan Club Honour Member. I'd love to receive more information about Gwen Grant. When did Gwen Grant read Betty MacDonald's books for the first time and which one is her favourite book? Does she know Mary Bard's books as well? What does she think about Monica Sone's book Nisei Daughter? Our family, even very difficult Gammy, are very interested in reading Gwen Grant's funny books.
We enjoyed Darsie Beck's childhood experiences so much. He is a very gifted artist and writer. I was reading the information about Darsie Beck's book and we would like to read it.

Publish more Wolfgang Hampel Interviews, please. Wolfgang Hampel interviewed so many famous artists and writers. Truman Capote, Ingrid Noll and Maurice Sendak belong to our favourite writers. A very good idea is to publish Wolfgang Hampel's satirical poems.
If they are as good as the ones we've read in Betty MacDonald Fan Club Newsletters they are outstanding.
As I'm a mother of four children I enjoyed the Betty MacDonald Fan Club News. We have a very successful and famous author for children as new Betty MacDonald Fan Club Honour Member. I'd love to receive more information about Gwen Grant. When did Gwen Grant read Betty MacDonald's books for the first time and which one is her favourite book? Does she know Mary Bard's books as well? What does she think about Monica Sone's book Nisei Daughter? Our family, even very difficult Gammy, are very interested in reading Gwen Grant's funny books.
We enjoyed Darsie Beck's childhood experiences so much. He is a very gifted artist and writer. I was reading the information about Darsie Beck's book and we would like to read it.

Betty MacDonald Fan Club Interviews

I was very happy to hear about our new Betty MacDonald Fan Club Honour member. I'm member of a 'Books for Children Acitvity' and can't wait to read Gwen Grant's books.
What about the other new Betty MacDonald Fan Club Honour Member? I heard it's a famous artist and writer.
Owning Chickens? I asked my wife and children and they shouted: NOOOOOOOOOO!
We are great animals lover and have our private zoo. We like eggs but after reading Betty MacDonald's The Egg and I we know how stupid chickens are. I knew it before because the family of a friend of mine had chickens and I wasn't fond of these creatures. Not at all!
The family with the chickens had a very clean place but they had neighbours like Ma and Pa Kettle. I'm very curious to read Wolfgang Hampel's Ma and Pa Kettle biography.
The Betty MacDonald CD with Betty MacDonald's and Alison Bard Burnett's interview is our Betty MacDonald Fan Club favourite. When will we have the chance to see Betty MacDonald's filmed interview? What about Betty MacDonald's interview on radio which had been mentioned in Betty MacDonald Fan Club Newsletter?
It's a very good idea to publish Wolfgang Hampel's other interviews for example with Mary Alice Bard and the Betty MacDonald Fan Club honour members Monica Sone and Darsie Beck. Chickens. Eggs. Manure for the garden. If there is a downside to the ownership of chickens, someone please explain it to me. In her classic book, The Egg and I, author Betty MacDonald made a hilarious case for not living on a chicken ranch. A thousand chickens is arguably too many. But everyone should have a dozen chickens. They’re far more soothing to the jangled city psyche than colorful fish swimming in a tank on a bookshelf. Hens make a soothing clucking noise, and they give you eggs on your breakfast plate that are better and fresher than Bill Gates eats, unless he also keeps chickens.
I'm very curious to see Wolfgang Hampel's and Alison Bard Burnett's wild days in Seattle.
Can we see the houses in the University District and Laurelhurst?
I'm very interested in seeing he rooms and gardens.
My grandparents had neighbours like Ma and Pa Kettle. The most favourite books in our family are Betty MacDonald's The Egg and I and Wolfgang Hampel's The Kettles' Million Dollar Egg.
Our Betty MacDonald Fan Club Top item is Wolfgang Hampel's interview with Betty MacDonald's sister Alison Bard Burnett, who has a perfect memory and remembers the Kettle family very well. My nephew likes Nancy and Plum and the Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle stories. Alison Bard Burnett and her daughter Alison Beck share the most wonderful Nancy and Plum and Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle memories and we can learn more about the background of these great books.

Chickens. Eggs. Manure for the garden. If there is a downside to the ownership of chickens, someone please explain it to me. In her classic book, The Egg and I, author Betty MacDonald made a hilarious case for not living on a chicken ranch. A thousand chickens is arguably too many. But everyone should have a dozen chickens. They’re far more soothing to the jangled city psyche than colorful fish swimming in a tank on a bookshelf. Hens make a soothing clucking noise, and they give you eggs on your breakfast plate that are better and fresher than Bill Gates eats, unless he also keeps chickens.
I'm very curious to see Wolfgang Hampel's and Alison Bard Burnett's wild days in Seattle.
Can we see the houses in the University District and Laurelhurst?
I'm very interested in seeing he rooms and gardens.
My grandparents had neighbours like Ma and Pa Kettle. The most favourite books in our family are Betty MacDonald's The Egg and I and Wolfgang Hampel's The Kettles' Million Dollar Egg.
Our Betty MacDonald Fan Club Top item is Wolfgang Hampel's interview with Betty MacDonald's sister Alison Bard Burnett, who has a perfect memory and remembers the Kettle family very well. My nephew likes Nancy and Plum and the Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle stories.
